She tried to make herself invisible.
She pulled the broken stars down with her head.
She used something called un-splitter-ing
To try and make them all whole again.
She tried to make herself a telepath.
She tried to change all of her memories.
She used the re-photo-izer
To try and recreate her own legacy.
She tried to make herself worthy
To a God, or the Devil, or her own.
She used the pre-mimic-ator
To replace all the people she’d known.
And finally, she tried to be good
To a standard that she’d never reach.
She attended the dis-pepper-athon
In hopes that she’d then turn out sweet.
But all that time she spent changing herself,
All along, I don’t think she could see
That each of the villains and every hero knows
You’re already who you’re meant to be.
Maybe it’s just my tendency to pine,
Or that, when I type, my heart speaks.
But the person who tried so hard to change herself,
All along, that person was me.
Because I tend to do all of that,
To want to be impossible things.
I tend to become invisible.
I tend to telepathically think.
I thought I was a superhero,
That I could do impossible things to no end.
But I’ve tried and I’ve tried, and I just simply can’t
Prove to you that I’m more than a friend.
